Drilling in wood – pre-drilling

Small screws can usually be fastened in wood without pre-drilling. Large screws are fastened better, if you pre-drill a hole. Predrilling means that you drill a hole with smaller diameter in which you can fasten a screw. Advantages: it prevents crushing of soft wood; hard wood should be pre-drilled, if you want to achieve good fastening.

Drilling in ceiling
Dust that is generated during drilling in the ceiling can damage the tool (chuck and commutator) dust also disables a good view of the bore.
Solution: just cut a yogurt cup at such height that it is lower than the drill bit (you should also consider the bore depth) and slide it over the drill bit to get a cup that will catch dust during drilling. You should step a bit aside in order to get a better view of the bore.
